Defense and Boards Seal 16–11 Win

Wildcats show immense heart in a defensive masterclass, securing points through discipline and teamwork.

Defense and relentlessness on the glass carried a gritty result, as the group closed out a 16-11 win. Sixteen team steals tilted the possession game and kept pressure on the ball, while 14 offensive rebounds created second chances that proved decisive in a low-scoring battle.

Destinii Ellis set the tone at both ends with 6 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals, driving the perimeter activity that fueled those takeaways. Ellie Najar added 4 points and matched Ellis with 4 steals, and Tamia Handy chipped in 4 points with a steal of her own. Demariiyana Timmons didn’t score but impacted the interior with a team-high 8 rebounds, helping secure the defensive finish and extend possessions. Felicity Bedford was efficient with 2 points on 1-of-2 shooting, and Darryn Wilson added a steal off the bench. Chasidy Barnes contributed 4 rebounds and 3 steals despite the turnovers.

The possession battle was the separator. The team racked up 16 team steals to constantly disrupt rhythm and turn defense into offense. On the glass, the work rate showed with 14 offensive rebounds, sustaining attacks even when the first shot didn’t fall. Ball movement showed in spots, with 6 assists on 8 made FGs reflecting that the best looks often came off the extra pass.

Shooting was a grind at 21 percent from the field, with no trips to the line, and the finishing around the rim can tighten up given the 8 of 38 from two. Taking care of the ball is the other sharpening point; 15 turnovers offered up empty trips that could have swung momentum. Even so, the collective hustle on steals and the rebounding edge provided the cushion needed to see out the result.
